Welcome to Brisbane’s wine region! The Queensland wine industry has grown quickly over the years, evolving into a place where old traditions meet innovation. Be sure to bring an empty cooler (or esky) to take some of your favourites home. Many of the wineries offer accommodations, so you can relax, enjoy the views, and not worry about driving. Here are few options you could visit in this beautiful region.
Granite Belt
If you're heading to the Granite Belt, it’s Queensland’s top wine region with over 50 boutique wineries. It’s Australia’s highest wine region, famous for its Strange Bird Wines, unique wines you won’t find anywhere else. One of the first places you'll come across is Heritage Estate. It’s a working vineyard with a cozy, 155-year-old timber cottage nestled among the trees.
The area is known for cool-climate wines like Shiraz and Chardonnay, but it’s the alternative varieties that make it stand out.
For a special experience, Balancing Heart Vineyard is a must-visit. You can taste some award-winning wines, take in breathtaking views, and enjoy the warm country atmosphere.
Canungra
Just 10 minutes from Canungra, Sarabah Estate offers wood-fired pizzas and wine tastings for 15$ or 20$, a great pairing to try!
Then, if you are heading to O’Reilly’s, stop by Canungra Valley Vineyard for wine tasting or a tasting paddle and enjoy a picnic by the creek.
Tamborine Mountain
If you’re visiting Mason Wines at Mt Tamborine, enjoy wine tastings for $8 with options like Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, and Petit Verdot. Their Eden Restaurant uses local produce, and there are two self-contained cottages, Administration House and Wine Makers Cottage.
In the Gold Coast Hinterland, Witches Falls Winery has earned 5 RED Stars from James Halliday. Enjoy a 60-minute tasting with six wines or opt for a cider tasting. Don’t miss the local cheese plate and a picnic by the vines.
At Albert River Wines, enjoy stunning valley views from the historic Auchenflower House deck, along with modern Australian cuisine.
Near Rathdowney, Scenic Rim region
If you are looking for a relaxing visit, Bunjurgen Estate Vineyard is a great spot to check out. They are famous for their award-winning Rosé made from their own grapes, and their 10-year barrel-aged 2010 Tawny Fortified is a must-try. The 24-hectare property has a beautiful walking trail through the vineyard, perfect for a picnic. For a stay-over experience, Barney Creek Vineyard Cottages is a good option. You can stay in their cozy cottages, walk through the vineyard, and enjoy a wine tasting with cheese or antipasto.
